NFL Football Playoffs – AFC Divisional Round Colts and Ravens
by Stephen Lars on Jan.13, 2010, under Previews, Sports News
The Indianapolis Colts have played it safe during these last weeks. They are expected to win their game against the Baltimore Ravens. Furthermore, they are expected to win it all. Instant Actions Sports has set NFL futures lines for the Big Game. If you think the Colts are good to go all the way, well, take a look at this sports wagering line: Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl XLIV ML +275.
Baltimore is still a treat and cannot be taken lightly. The Ravens can run the ball. In fact, they averaged 216.5 yards in their last 5 games. Last week they flew over the Eagles with complete authority. Baltimore managed to keep New England’s Tom Brady from performing at his best. But the Ravens are now going to be facing this years MVP Peyton Manning. What’s even tougher, they are going to face a well-rested Peyton Manning. The Ravens’ defense is going to have Ray Lewis aiming his 250 lbs. at Manning to try to stop him. But it’s a rough job.
Rumor has it that quarterback Joe Flacco’s hip injury is quite more painful then he would admit. He is a tough guy, sure, and he has the motivation and stamina to ride it through, but he only completed 11 passes in his last game, so you might want add the hip into the equation. And to make things worse, Todd Heap has been suffering from back spasms, yet Head Coach John Harbaugh say they will be fine.
It’s going to be a tough road game for the Ravens’ defense. The Colts have 5 receivers with 47 or more receptions each. And if you are into statistics, the Colts have won their last 7 matches against the Ravens. Still, according to Instant Actions Sports wagering lines the Colts are the favorite by 6½ points as of press time.

NFL- Colts Surpass Dolphins in a Close Game, 27-23
by BetIAS on Sep.23, 2009, under Sports News
By Ally White
After winning the first game of the 2009 NFL season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Indianapolis Colts did it again. This time, the team faced the Miami Dolphins at the Land Shark Stadium and won with a closer score of 27-23.
The outcome came as an enormous surprise and probably a tremendous disappointment for Miami’s new star-studded minority owners (including Jennifer Lopez, Serena Williams, and Tiger Woods), who made a Hollywood-type appearance on an orange carpet into the stadium. But even beyond the disappointment of the VIPs, the Colts took possession of the ball for only 14:53 to the Dolphins’ 45:07. In fact, the Colts needed only 35 plays to take the win.
The reason for the astonishing win? Cast your eyes on Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning, a key player during the game who was able to convert two passes into touchdowns with great skill and precision. The first pass was finished in the first play of the game; the second, at the end of the fourth quarter, with only 3:18 left to play.
Manning pushed the game from the very beginning. In the first play of the first quarter, Manning stunned with a surprise pass to Dallas Clark, who then scored an 80-yard touchdown to put the score at 7-0. The Dolphins, however, were able to tie the game in the next offensive series thanks to Ronnie Brown, who scored a touchdown after a 14-yard run.
In the second quarter, the teams were kept at a tie, with both scoring intercalated field goals. Indianapolis scored with Andy Vinatieri a 43- and a 48-yard field goal while Miami scored a 45- and a 44-yard field goal in the hands of Dan Carpenter. By halftime, the score was tied 13-13.
The third quarter added no points; however, in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins took the lead after Ronnie Brown scored a touchdown in 3 yards. The Colts responded quickly, tying the score at 20-20 with a 15-yard run by Donald Brown. Minutes later, Dan Carpenter managed another field goal for Miami to put the score 23-20 in the Dolphins’ favor.
With just over 3 minutes left in the game, Manning came to the rescue, demonstrating why he is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. He found receptor Pierce Garcon, who then escaped 48 yards down the field to score the winning touchdown for Indianapolis. With the play, the Colts closed the game and took their second victory of the season.
Manning ended the game with 14 of 23 passes for 303 yards. He converted the two passes and committed no interceptions. For Miami, runner Ronnie Brown was the most notable player, with 24 runs and a total of 136 yards and 2 touchdowns.
After the game, Manning said that it was a change of approach that changed the game. He began pushing himself and his teammates from the very beginning.
“You aren’t bothered in the first and second quarters, but in the fourth quarter, it is time to get going. You normally feel so much pressure that you press. It was just the opposite tonight. I kept telling the guys that we had to score every time that we went out there,” said the quarterback sensation.
With the win, the Colts improved their record to 2-0 whereas the Dolphins are 0-2. Indianapolis’ next game will be against Arizona, while Miami will face San Diego at the Qualcomm Stadium; both games will be held on Sunday September, 27th.

NFL- Anthony Gonzalez Sidelined for at least 8 weeks
by BetIAS on Sep.17, 2009, under Sports News
By Audrey Nolan
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that receiver Anthony Gonzalez would be sidelined for at least eight weeks, two weeks longer than expected. Gonzalez had a sprain on the ligaments in his right knee, but initially, the diagnosis did not seem severe; six weeks seemed the maximum time Gonzalez would be out. However, the team did announce that if Gonzalez were absent for more than four weeks, a replacement would be found.
The Colts have yet to make an official statement about replacing Gonzalez, but rumors began to circulate that Indianapolis was looking at Hank Baskett. The whispers were later confirmed by Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.
Baskett is presumed to play in Monday night’s game against Miami.
Gonzalez’s absence may prove a problem for the Colts, who had set all their hopes on the young receiver. The team had taken Gonzalez as a first-round draft pick in 2007, looking to replace the franchise’s career receiving leader, Marvin Harrison, in a move to cut costs. Harrison was released in February and is still a free agent.
Without Gonzalez, the team is short on receivers; besides Reggie Wayne, only Pierre Garcon, a second-year pro, and Austin Collie, a rookie that was a fourth round draft pick from Brigham Young, are available. Thus the Colts turned to the Philadelphia Eagles and Baskett, hoping that the veteran would be able to replace Gonzalez during his absence. Nevertheless, Garcon and Collie will be an important part of the strategy.
“Pierre is going to be a big part of our game plan, Austin Collie, too, no question,” Manning said. “But this is the NFL. You can’t just draw up a play and say this ball has got to go to Dallas Clark (FSY). Pierre has worked hard over here, I think he spent six hours over the last two days studying film and Austin has done that as well.”
Collie has been focusing on improvement, learning his role for not only Monday’s games, but also the games that will follow. The player admitted that he needed to prepare himself for the upcoming season. The team overall will need to find a new rhythm without Gonzalez.
The Colts are now setting their hopes on Baskett and the security he can bring to the team. He is physically larger than any other receiver at Indianapolis, a quality that may help the team. He spent all three of his previous NFL seasons with the Eagles, who reached the NFC Championship game last year. But Basket has had just 72 career receptions in 1,052 yards and 6 touchdowns; he caught only one pass for six yards when the team routed Carolina on Sunday.
The player, however, is ready for his new role.
“It’s definitely going to be a crash course,” Baskett said. “Everybody talked about Philadelphia’s offense. That was a lot to learn. But coming in [to Indianapolis] during the season and getting here, there’s definitely a lot to learn. Peyton and the guys stayed out there with me to throw a couple routes and just work me in. I’m definitely up to the challenge.”
The deal was set with the Eagles and Baskett was released on Wednesday.
