The fans have chosen their top players in Germany of this week! Even though they are not always having the same opinion about their favorite players, we could find some similarities. Let’s start with the keeper of the 13th match day, here we have two players who fight for the first spot which are: Manuel Neuer and Rene Adler. Neither of the keepers are known for much time in the German First Division. Neuer had his first Bundesliga match at the end of 2006, some months later in 2007; while Adler was standing in the box for his team Bayer Leverkusen since the regular goalie was banned due to a red card.
After the netkeeper Jens Lehmann announced his retirement from the German national team on past August 8th, after his 61st international game, there are now two newcomers who have the chance to conquer the place as the regular keeper in the team. The 23-year-old Rene Adler was already officially convened into the Euro 2008 squad and would have his first big game on October 11th 2008 against Russia; a qualification game for the World Cup 2010 in Africa.
On the 13th match day both keepers meet each other on the field whereby the championship leader Leverkusen won over Schalke 04 with 2-1. In total Neuer let only pass 12 balls in the whole season and Adler, with the second best figure, let pass 15 balls.
On defense we have four top candidates which are Josipo Simunic from Hertha BSC, Phillip Lahm from FC Bayern Munich, Rafinha from FC Schalke 04 and Neven Subotic from Borussia Dortmund. Simunic had to face a range of opponents and was able to win most of the duels, helping his team to the 2-1 victory. Lahm could finally play again after a long injury lay-off; he sealed up the front and did not let anybody pass through. Until the 68th minute everything seemed good for Bayern since they were leading with 2-0 but then they replaced Lahm and just ten minutes later they conceded the first goal from Gladbach.
Just a short time after this, Michael Bradley leveled the tie and the game ended 2-2. The Brazilian Rafinha played as usual aggressive and was an excellent defense player for his team. For the 19-year-old Subotic this is his first Bundesliga season and his club will probably not let him go so fast, because he is not only a top player in the defense but also can make goals. On the 13th match day he achieved two goals against Eintracht Frankfurt.
I also want to mention a player from Werder Bremen about whom not all voters had the same opinion. However, I think he deserves a spot in the top players; it is the Brazilian Naldo, who won 83% of his duels at the game against Cologne and he also had a spectacular pass completing rate.
In the midfield Franck Ribery, Tamas Hajnal, Carlos Eduardo, Marko Marin and Alexander Baumjohann built up a reputation. Ribery and Marin were already selected for the past match day and this time too. Marin is just like Subotic, a new player over whom hopes are pinned and he plays for the German squad this year for the first time. Hajnal made his coach smile when he made three assistances that finished in goals and also scored one himself.
Directly in front of the goal area, the fans selected Andreij Wronin from Hertha BSC with his indefatigable effort, Chinedu Obasi who shot the winner goal for the ascender 1899 Hoffenheim, Hugo Almeida who finally won with his team again and the second Hoffenheimer, Vedad Ibisevic who achieved his 14th season goal.
