Football Star Vick Watches NFL Games Behind Bars

By: Jane Richy NFL Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick will have to spend some time behind bars in the Northern Neck Regional Jail for breaking the law.

Vick, who had signed a 10-year contract with the NFL Falcons back in December 2004 for 130 million dollars, was accused of being involved in a dog fighting scandal related to slaying and gambling. He was sent to court and put him behind bars after he turned himself over to the US marshals last Monday. As a result of his behavior he now owes the team an amount of 19.97 million dollars for violating the contract and breaking the laws, which he signed as “bonuses”. He is now serving his sentence even before he has been judged; the hearing is scheduled for next December 10th by Judge Henry Hudson. Billy Martin, Vick’s attorney, explained that Vick accepts responsibility for his actions and turned himself in, “Michael wants to once again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter and he thanks all the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time.”

Apparently, the 27-year-old quarterback owned an area in Southeastern Virginia that served as kennel where dogs were trained to fight. Due to his behavior he was suspended indefinitely by the Nation Football League, and most of his product endorsement relations have been suspended, also there are three banks that suit him for multi million amounts to recover loans for some of his “investments”. Vick will spend his time in jail until he gets his sentence in the next couple of weeks; he faces a punishment of 5-years. Northern Neck Regional Jail inmates are charged for offenses from misdemeanors up to murder, there are about 425 inmates and around 40 of them are women. The inmates are placed in small cells, and small dorms, “high profile” inmates are apart from the general population, though Vick’s situation is not known.

Federal guidelines suggest a sentence of one year to eighteen months; he is scheduled to be sentenced next December the 10th and the fact of entering voluntarily to custody is going to be taken in count.
