Coach Fletcher’s resignation following poor performance

By Stephen Larsen.

Former England captain and all-rounder Ian Botham on Wednesday sought for coach Duncan Fletcher’s resignation following the team’s poor performance at the World Cup, which saw them crashing out from the Super 8s.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman David Morgan is due to talk to reporters in Barbados on Thursday after the ECB made no comment on Wednesday over Fletcher’s position or that of captain Michael Vaughan.

Former England cricketer and current journalist Angus Fraser is spot on; it’s time for the stubborn and less-than-talented coach Duncan Fletcher to go. I have never rated Fletcher, despite the general consensus that he is a top man. Even when England beat Australia in the Ashes in 2005, the result was more down to the Aussies’ dip in form than tactical acumen from the Zimbabwean coach.
