By Ally White

This time, for the 2007 Triple Crown races, a record of 450 horses have been nominated, including 2-year-old champions Street Sense and Dreaming of Anna and 32 nominees from trainer Todd Pletcher. The previous record for early nominations was in 2003 and it was 446, which carries a $600 fee to be eligible for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes.

The list of the horses was released Sunday by Triple Crown Productions after the early nomination period ended January 20th. One of the early Derby favorites is Street Sense who also obtained the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, while Dreaming for Anna won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her owner has said he would consider running his 3-year-old filly in the Derby.

This is the fifth year in a row that Pletcher leads all trainers. Among his nominees are Scat Daddy and Circular Quay who are Grade I stakes winners. His horses were listed under trainers Anthony Sciametta Jr., and Michael McCarthy because he is serving a 45-day suspension for a medication violation that ends on February 10th.

Holy Bull Stakes’ winner Nobiz Like Shobiz, is among the nominees. The 3-year-old is trained by Barclay Tagg, who won the 2003 Derby and Preakness with the same horse Funny Cide. Ahmed Zayat’s Zayat Stable led all owners with 16 nominees.

The 3-year-olds can be made eligible as late as three days before the May 5th Derby with a $200,000 supplementary payment. The late nomination period, with a $6,000 fee, closes March 31st.  About the Author:Ally White is a top senior copy writer on sportsbook action for http://www.instantactionsports.com.
