Barcelona Not In a Good Spot

By Cindy Ferguson

The current Champions League Title Defenders, Barcelona, may not reach their desired goal of being the first club to play 400 European matches after being put in a tough spot by Chelsea as this team currently holds the number one spot for their group.

The club presently occupies the third place in Group A of the Champions League with 8 points and may become the first team to be eliminated during the group stage after winning a Champions League title. Barcelona is obligated to win their next away game against Werder Bremen, whom is second place on the table with 10 points. On the other hand, Chelsea has it made easy and basically has its place secured for a shot at being this year’s champion, with a home game against Levski Sofia, a team that has not won any of their five matches and is last place in the group.

Barcelona has won two Champions League Titles in the past, their first being in 1992 and their most recent in 2006 and if they do not make it to the finals they will end up in the UEFA Cup along with other top leagues that have struggled in the current tournament.
