Finally the Date has been Set

One of the wealthier fights in boxing history will take place now that Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to the terms of their next encounter. The multi-weight champions will collide in light-middleweight fight next May in either Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
I would say the match will be a boxing show because the clash between two represents a fight between two modern boxing idols but this does not guarantee the quality of the match and it certainly does not mean it will be an evenly matched battle but history will almost definitely be made and records broken.
As always with his pride on the highest peak De La Hoya said on a statement: “Done deal! I wanted it. How could I not be excited? I took this fight because, like always, I want to take on the best.” This shows all of us that he has not changed, that he has definitely not retired and that he changed his mind since his last fight.
Mayweather also indicated he would quit after one more fight following his lopsided points win over Carlos Baldomir to claim the WBC welterweight title last week, but I guess his win over Baldomir made him change his mind too.
Both fighters will receive career-best purses for the fight. De La Hoya will earn in excess of £13.1million, while Mayweather will pocket over £5.3million.
The fact that it is Floyd Mayweather Senior that will be training Oscar to defeat his own son, will only enhance the interest in the build up to what must surely be the most eagerly awaited non heavyweight clash since Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns staged the most exciting three rounds of boxing in Las Vegas 21 years ago.
