Miroslav Klose, Germany’s Scorer

Miroslav was born in Poland and began his career with SG Blaubach Diedelkopf and Homburg before signing for Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern in 1999. He forced his way into the full team via their amateur side.

He made his international debut in March 2001 against Albania and scored a winning debut goal after coming on from the bench.

Miroslav certainly got his 2002 World Cup off to a perfect start with a hat-trick in a 8-0 win against Saudi Arabia. It was the first German threesome in the World Cup finals since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge against Chile in Gijon in 1982.

He moved in to contention for the 2002 Golden Boot with Germany’s only goal in their second game - a 1-1 draw with Ireland - then netted the second in the 2-0 defeat of Cameroon. Incredibly, all five goals were headers.

Miroslav played in the 2002 World Cup Final defeat by Brazil and was selected for FIFA’s All-Star squad.

On his 28th birthday, Miroslav scored twice in Germany’s opening game of the 2006 World Cup as they beat Costa Rica 4-2 in Munich.

He also netted twice in their final group game against Ecuador - a 3-0 win in Berlin.

Only on the Round of 16 he had made 4 goals, which keep him on the top of the goalers for the FIFA World Cup 2006. For sure, we’ll see more of him while Germany be on this tournament.
